Animating A Ribbon In Maya Using Nested Deformers

Lewis Pickston breaks down a particular component of an animation, showing how he created the ribbon using Maya’s nested deformers. Lewis creates his path and flow object in standard fashion before animating it to look like it flows with fluidity from start-to finish!

Lewis’ approach to animation is different than most other animators because he uses several nested or stacked deformers that can easily alter the shape of his ribbons during an animated sequence. This means you don’t have to build a complex rig for it and instead just enter into posing them over time as needed, all without having too much work on your plate!
