The law allows for “fair use” of copyrighted materials, which can be used in a limited way and still not infringe on copyright laws. One example is if you’re using someone’s work to criticize them or comment about their work without permission; this would seem like a legitimate criticism but it could also give another author ideas they never had before when reading your article!
A lot depends on how non-profit the educational purpose/use case falls (like those who are teaching writing courses). The key point here though? Fair Use ultimately tips that scale towards fair use–so as long as we keep these things balanced then there shouldn’t really any problems at all.
