Change Text Layers By Renaming A Composition In After Effects

Ukramedia’s Sergei Prokhnevskiy Shows a Tick That Will Have You Replacing Text Layer Names With Composition Names in After Effects

Have you ever needed to create a lot of different versions for your project? Then this tip by After Effects expert, Sergei Prokhnevskiy is just what you need. He shows how quickly and easily it can be made into one composite file with all the changes that were done on their own separate files or titles in order not waste time doing everything over again!

Sergei walks through how to set that all up and shows how the expressions work. The expressions used are in two parts:

  1. //EXPRESSION ONE
  2. compName = thisComp.name;     //Be sure to use thisComp.name if you’re planning on duplicating the comp
  3. compName.substring(0, compName.indexOf(“,”))
  4.
  5. //EXPRESSION TWO
  6. compName = thisComp.name;     //Be sure to use thisComp.name if you’re planning on duplicating the comp
  7. compName.substring(compName.indexOf(“,”)+2)

For when you need to work with text versions of your compositions, keep these around.
