Create A Snow Shader With Arnold

ILM Lighting TD Arvid Schneider Shows How to Create a Great Looking Snow Shader With Arnold

Building a snowshader is not an easy task. First, you have to work with all the visual attributes that make snow look like real-life ice crystals and glittering lights in order for it seem convincing enough on screen or off. For this reason Arvid Schneider has created his own series aimed at educating game developers how they too can create their very own believable shimmery layers within games using material shaders.

Arvid’s snow shader is filled with both high and low-frequency noise to give it that rough, icy feeling. The base of his model has been displaced ever so slightly which causes the surface texture to be irregular in shape without using any image textures for variety sake!

Arvid has been making movies for years, but he really wants to make them better. He’s funded by his audience and asks that you help him in return! Check out Arvids Patreon page where you can become a supporter at just $1 per month so this project continues on its path of success.
