In this example, James uses the luminance values of a source clip to alter the size and texture of textured particles. He can use Stardust for After Effects which has high-end 3D features that lets him render realistically with its physically based rendering engine or he could also go into Nuke if want more control over how it looks when using software instead on hardware like CINEMA 4D Studio.
