Creating A Realtime Carved Wood Texture With Maya And Zbrush

Environment Texture Artist, Hugo Beyer gives us some insights into creating a carved wooden panel in Maya and Zbrush. He takes us through the modeling process of replicating an object from one reference image using polygonal models which are then textured for use with parallax mapping techniques on both vertex colors as well as normal maps.

This is the first part of a multipart tutorial, with this section covering how to model and texturize plants like leaves and flowers. Then Hugo demonstrates some sculpting in Zbrush before adding details such as edge rounding on models created for 3D printing designs using SketchUp—a free online tool by Trimble (read more).
