David A. Ferreira Shows How to Create Shapes in Houdini Using the Curve Pursuit Algorithm.
David A. Ferreira has revealed a video of an experiment that makes use of the concept behind curves, which is called pursuit-lines or more specifically ‘curves formed by relationship between points representing pursuers and pursuees.’ The shape traced out will always be congruent with what’s being chased after; it might not make sense though because we’re used to seeing things like circles when chasing each other around on foot!
David’s short demonstration makes it pretty clear that curves are formed when points always want to move closer together. He then shows how this simple algorithm can be recreated in Houdini with just two nodes, one for each end of the curve. You can download David’s file here!
