Reducing Caustic Noise in Blender Cycles

Learn how to reduce noise and fireflies with caustics in Cycles

In this quick tip learn how to use the Light Paths node in Blender’s Cycles render engine for reduced noise and fireflies when using caustics. Normally, it is necessary to enable high sample counts due excessive luminance caused by light trails from bounced lighting which can be solved through disabling them throughout your animation or video project. However because they also contribute color bleeding between different types of materials on an object as well have other benefits like improving realism during post-production with image editing software such as Photoshop therefore preventing unnecessary time spent rendering images without these important effects.

By using Blender’s Light Path node to mix a glossy and diffuse shader we can drastically reduce the noise, keep caustics enabled, and produce a nicer image.
