Use After Effect Trim Paths To Write On Type

Mikey Borup suggests an alternative for writing type on the screen in After Effects. Using After Effects shape layers and their Trim Path animator, you are able to easily create a write-on animation with ease!

The Trim Paths animator in After Effects can easily draw a stroke on the screen with just two keyframes. If you have multiple letters to animation, they’ve got an option for that too!

One way to add some visual interest and variety in your designs is by using Trim Paths on a shape layer. This will work best with non serif type, but offers more control over what you can do through After Effects brushwork when creating the same reveal effect – whether subtle or bold!

Once the Trim Paths are animated, it is just a matter of using these animations as tracking mattes to reveal type layers.
