Using Blender’s New True Subsurface Scattering In Cycles

This week, the Blender developers revealed a new Subsurface Scatter Shader that will be included in next month’s update. The rendering process of this shader was demonstrated on-air by Charles “thespastickangaroo” with one example being how it allows for more realistic and detailed lighting effects than what you can achieve using other techniques such as Raytracing or path tracing lights alone:
We’ll take some time now to go over all three of these technologies before we get into exactly how they compare against each other so keep watching!

Cycles has an awesome new feature: a true SSS shader

Creating a simple SSS Setup, Charles compares some attributes and differences for using the new subsurface Scattering Shader versus old method. Currently it is undergoing optimizations but still fun to try out on GPUS!
